Silver Volunteer Fund (SVF)
Singapore’s population is ageing rapidly. By 2030, 1 in 4 Singaporeans will be aged 65 years or older, and we will have over 900,000 seniors, more than double the current 550,000. Volunteerism is recognised as a key component of active ageing and it provides new opportunities in longevity, for both individuals and Singapore as a nation.
Announced on 4 September 2015, the President’s Challenge champions a national movement of senior volunteerism through the Silver Volunteer Fund (SVF). This national movement is also one of the initiatives encompassed in the Action Plan for Successful Ageing that was unveiled by Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister-in-charge of Ageing and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee on Ageing on 26 August 2015.
