(A) National Social Work Competency Framework (NSWCF)
The competency framework for social workers cuts across all fields of practice, including social service and healthcare, lists the knowledge, skills and behavioural attributes required at different job levels, and maps out possible career pathways.
Complementary to the above, NCSS has produced a two part video series to further guide social work professionals in making a resolute decision in their career path. The first part of the video illustrates the key components of the NSWCF, which provides an insight into (a) Practice Tracks for Social Workers, (b) Key Responsibility Areas (KRAs), (c) Knowledge and Skill Competencies, and (d) Behavioural Competencies required of a social worker. This video should be viewed in conjunction with the second video on ‘My Career – A Professional Development Guide’ for a better understanding of how you can develop your profession as a social worker.

A self-assessment toolkit was developed to accompany the career development guide to assist you through a step by step planning process.
Complementary to the above, the second part of the video series is an informative resource that will help you and your staff understand and apply the NSWCF to your career development and help you create your development plan. It offers step by step guide on how to use the self-assessment toolkit. This video should be viewed in conjunction with the first video on the NSWCF for a better understanding of how you can develop your profession as a social worker.
