Heartgifts is an avenue for clients of VWOs to showcase their artistic talents in producing artwork and gifts for public consumption. The team at NCSS (National Council of Social Service) visit our Singapore based VWOs to assist in the design, manufacture and packaging of artwork/ tokens for sale to fellow Singaporeans or overseas visitors. Each piece is carefully selected and packaged for you.
Heartgifts is a social enterprise project started by NCSS in 2013 to help promote and sell products made by its member voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs). Handcrafted items by VWOs for sale previously were often hampered by a lack of resources and marketing know-how. Sales were low, and the general public knew little of such handcrafted wares on the market. As the sales proceeds go straight to the beneficiaries, the slow sales had a direct impact on their livelihood.
Corporate organisations and government agencies often need to purchase gifts for clients and visiting dignitaries, and there were few alternatives to the mass-produced items on the market.
Corporate organisations and government agencies often need to purchase gifts for clients and visiting dignitaries, and there were few alternatives to the mass-produced items on the market. There was a gap in the supply of meaningful and quality corporate gifts in Singapore and thus NCSS began to market the products made by the VWOs as gifts that could meet this need in the market.
To enhance the profile and quality of these products, beneficiaries at the various participating VWOs were included in the designing and packaging of their products.
The beneficiaries at the various participating VWOs include persons with disabilities and mental health issues, seniors-in-need, and former offenders. The project has not only boosted their income, but has also helped to empower them and give them recognition for their artistic talents.
Products include framed artwork, costume jewellery, stationery, lacquerware and photograph frames. There is something for all budgets, as prices of these products range from below $20 to above $300. All products include a profile of the organisation and/or artist involved that serves to raise awareness and explain their cause.
