Social Service Scholarship

 

Are you an outstanding individual with a passion for helping people and the leadership qualities to drive social change? Then you’re just the right person for the Social Service Scholarship.


As a Social Service Scholar, you’ll be given opportunities to participate in training and developmental programmes and engage regularly with sector leaders. Such initiatives will enable you to hone your professional and leadership skills, leaving you fully equipped to make a great impact as a leader in the social service sector.

Supported fields of study

You can pursue full-time undergraduate or postgraduate studies from local universities or overseas universities recognised by professional accreditation bodies in the following areas:
  • Social Work
  • Psychology (only applicable for postgraduate studies)
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Physiotherapy

Eligibility criteria

The Social Service Scholarship supports both full-term and mid-term applications. 

To be eligible for a full-term scholarship, you must:
  • be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • possess excellent GCE ‘A’ level, International Baccalaureate (IB), diploma and/or university results
  • have applied to a university or gained admission into a recognised Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy or Psychology programme at the point of application
  • demonstrate leadership qualities, community involvement and a strong interest in charting a career in the social service sector
To be eligible for a mid-term scholarship, you must:
  • be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • have already completed at least one (01) academic semester of studies
  • have at least one (01) academic year remaining at the point of application
  • possess excellent university results to date
  • demonstrate leadership qualities, community involvement and a strong interest in charting a career in the social service sector

 

Bond duration

Depending on the type of scholarship you apply for, you must serve a bond for the following respective durations at one of our social service agencies upon completing your studies: 



How to apply

Full-term scholarship

There are two application windows each year.
  • Applications received by 31 March will be assessed in April/May
  • Applications received by 30 September will be assessed in October/November

Mid-term scholarship

Applications for mid-term scholarships for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies are open all year round and are assessed in two windows.

  • Applications received by 31 March will be assessed in April/May
  • Applications received by 30 September will be assessed in October/November

Candidates who do not meet the scholarship criteria may be considered for the Social Service Award (Degree / Postgraduate).

Prime Minister’s Social Service Award

As a Social Service Scholar, you are eligible to apply for the prestigious Prime Minister’s Social Service Award. This award aims to encourage more Singaporeans to pursue a career in the social service sector.

As a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Social Service Award, you will receive an additional grant of $10,000 for your research/project work in your field of study. This can go towards defraying expenses incurred for research and project work that you undertake during the course of study. The additional support will enable you to come up with more extensive and robust pieces of research and project work, which will put you in a better position to contribute to the sector when you join the workforce.
