Dr Natasha Mitter
2 July 2025
Senior Clinical Psychologist, Head of Clinical Team, The Salvation Army
Natasha Mitter is recognised for her pioneering work in trauma-informed care and leadership in building sustainable mental health systems for vulnerable children and youth. At The Salvation Army (TSA), she developed RE:Ignite, a resilience-building programme for youth with Adverse Childhood Experiences. Piloted across residential, school, and community settings, it has reached over 40 youths, with 80% reporting improvements in confidence, emotional regulation, and goal-setting.
Natasha also founded TSA’s first in-house clinical unit—the Centre for Psychological and Counselling Services (CPC). Starting as the organisation’s sole psychologist, she built a multidisciplinary team that now supports over 200 children, youth, and families through therapy and counselling. By embedding therapy into homes and schools, she has helped reduce trauma symptoms, depression, and challenging behaviours, making the CPC a critical backbone of TSA’s therapeutic ecosystem.
Before TSA, Natasha led behavioural and research initiatives at Thye Hwa Kwan Moral Charities and the Institute of Mental Health. She also developed the widely used Affiliate Stigma Scale as part of her doctoral thesis at University College London.
She continues to shape the sector through care staff training, clinical trainee programmes, and national mental health workgroups. For her contributions to advancing trauma recovery and building mental health capability, Natasha is awarded the Merit Award 2025.
