Counsellor
A counsellor works with families and caregivers to help individuals better understand their social and psychological needs. As a counsellor, you help clients develop skills, access resources and tap on support services for multifaceted issues, including poverty, disability, addiction, delinquent behaviour, marital and mental health problems.
Key Responsibilities
The counsellor empowers clients, so that they can be self-sufficient and discover their own strengths in resolving difficulties and challenges.
- Interview clients individually, in families or in groups.
- Assess their situation and help them develop strategies and plans for the future.
- Plan and implement assistance programmes for clients, including crisis intervention and referrals to the relevant agencies.
